Yes, regular play dough is full of wheat and can cause lots of problems for kids (or big kids) who play with it. It can make its way into mouths very easily and then there is cross contamination of tables, plates, utensils etc. Also, as in my family it causes rashes and forms or DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) This is not proven but we have done our own "studies" and it is the case for us. SO, here is a recipe for homemade play dough.
Enjoy
3/4 c white rice flour
3/4 c cornstarch
3/4 c salt
1 Tbsp cream of tarter
2 tsp olive or seed oil
1 1/2 c water, hot but not boiling
food coloring (as desired)
add all dry ingredients in a pot, add oil then water, and continue to mix until thoroughly combined. Turn on heat. Heat over low heat stir continuously for about 3 minutes. When dough pulls away from the sides of pot into a big ball, place dough in glass bowl.
Once cool enough to handle divide into 3-5 pieces. add coloring as desired to each piece and work with hands to incorporate color.
have fun!!
